REDMOND — In its second trip to the volleyball postseason in the school’s two -year history, Ridgeview High got off to a great start on Tuesday night.
With 32 kills spread evenly throughout the team, the Ravens cruised to a 25-15, 25-17, 25-13 Class 4A play-in victory over visiting North Bend of the Far West League.
“It was a good starting match, a good play-in match,” Ridgeview coach Debi Dewey said. “We had everybody involved and feel good about the fact that it was a pretty easy victory in that regard.”
Brianna Yeakey posted eight kills to pace the Ravens, and Katrina Johnson added six kills. Shelby Abbas finished with four kills, and Kayla Jackson had three to go along with 11-of-11 serving with two aces. Katie Nurge also went 11 of 11 from the service line and tallied a team-high eight digs.
Although Dewey noted that Tuesday’s contest “was not our best serving night,” Ridgeview as a team connected on 67 of 74 serves (90.5 percent) with 13 aces.
“I think the girls are pretty excited to be here at this point in the season,” Dewey said. “We wanted to win, and they just got out there and went after it.”
During the win-or-go-home play-in, the Ravens were able to shuffle the lineup around to allow players to gain experience in different positions on the court. That, Dewey said, is to prepare for the state playoffs, starting with a first-round match on Saturday.
“We’re trying to get them used to adjusting and making switches quickly,” Dewey said. “Everything we did tonight we’re hoping will serve us later on.”
