A 24-year-old Redmond man believed to have fired a gunshot while in the midst of a mental crisis was detained for evaluation early Saturday, according to Redmond Police Department.

Police were called to a home near the intersection of Southwest 17th Street and Southwest Kalama Avenue at around 4:50 a.m. upon receiving a report of a “subject in mental crisis.” As officers approached to make contact with the man, a single shot was fired.

Additional officers were summoned, including the Central Oregon Emergency Response Team, as well as the Deschutes County Mobile Crisis Assessment Team. After close to two hours, the subject and a second person inside the residence were evacuated.

Police did not identify the man whose mental crisis sparked the standoff, but he faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree criminal mischief.
