The man who died over the weekend in a camper fire has been identified as 54-year-old Bruce Hammer.

According to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Bend fire investigator Cindy Kettering has not been able to determine the cause of the fire that engulfed the camper at 23370 Alfalfa Market Road around 4:15 a.m. Saturday, but it appears the fire was an accident.

Homeowners at the scene called 911 to report the fire Saturday morning. When deputies and firefighters arrived they found a pickup camper, unattached to a vehicle, fully engulfed. After the fire was put out, a body was found inside the camper. Sheriff’s Office detectives investigated at the scene.

The camper was a total loss, and a shop building where the camper was parked sustained minor damage.
