Fly-tying corner

Wormfly, tied by Pete Ouellette.

Maybe it’s a worm, maybe it’s two bugs in one bite. I like this lure because it reminds me of one of my favorites, the Brown Hackle wet fly. It is best put to use on shallow lakes with clear water and shore-side cover.

Stalk the shoreline and watch for active feeders. Then cast ahead of them or time their feeding circuit. Fish the Wormfly very slow, or just let it sink on a tight line.

Tie two No. 8 wet fly hooks together with Power Pro or similar braided line. On the rear hook, tie in a tail of red wool. Build the bodies with peacock herl and rib with fine wire. For the hackle, use natural red hen.
