LAS VEGAS — Bobby Mote made the most of his second chance.

The four-time world bareback champion from Culver turned a re-ride into a share of first place Monday night in the fifth round of the 2013 National Finals Rodeo. Mote also regained the lead in the world standings, which he brought into the 10-day competition at Thomas & Mack Center.

Another Central Oregon cowboy, Prineville’s Charly Crawford, was an outright winner Monday, as he and partner Ryan Motes, of Weatherford, Texas, placed first in the team roping with a time of 5.80 seconds.

Crawford, a header, and Motes, a heeler, earned $18,629.81 each for the victory. Crawford and Motes tied for first in Friday night’s second round; Crawford, 35, currently ranks seventh in the world standings for headers with 2013 winnings of $101,942.18.

Powell Butte’s Brandon Beers, a header, was out of the money with a no-time ride Monday with partner Jim Ross Cooper, of Monument, N.M. Beers currently ranks third in the world standings with total winnings of $112,196.22.

Competing in his 13th consecutive NFR, the 37-year-old Mote posted a re-ride score of 87.50 on PTSD Power Play. The mark tied Casey Colletti for first place, and both riders earned $16,676.68. The winnings boosted Mote into the world standings lead with total winnings this year of $153,981.87. At the midway point of the NFR, Mote holds a lead of $4,360 over runner-up Kaycee Feild, of Payson, Utah.

Feild, the two-time reigning world champion, tied for sixth place Monday with another Central Oregon rider, Redmond’s Steven Peebles. Peebles, who won the second and third rounds, matched Feild’s score of 84.50 in Monday’s round to pocket $1,502.40.
