Alan Terp, age 85 of Bend, OR, passed away peacefully of natural causes November 2, 2013.
Born in Ogema, WI, he and his family moved to Oregon to purchase land and farm in the beautiful Willamette Valley. Alan graduated from Silverton High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1950. Drawn to a career on the water, he received his Masters, Mates and Pilots license, and began a career as a river pilot. During this time, he served as one of the first fireboat pilots in Portland, and achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He spent a long career with the Portland Fire Department until his retirement.
Always active, Alan enjoyed numerous outdoor activities, which included RV-ing with his wife, Carol, skiing, and backpacking.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Alfred and Isabell Terp; his brother, Leslie Terp, and sisters, Audrey Culp and Kay Hiem.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Carol Lee of Bend, OR; daughters Jamie Volz (Daniel) of Bend, OR, Kristina Klaetsch (Ronald) of Estacada, OR, and son, Todd Terp of Arlington, OR; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a very large and close extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be made to Partners in Care Hospice, Bend, OR.
