Donald M. Hall
Apr. 18, 1935 – Nov. 19, 2013
Donald Malcom Hall of Redmond, Oregon, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2013 with his family and friends at his side at Hospice House of Bend. He was 78.
A private reception celebrating Don’s life is planned for 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at his home in Redmond.
Don was born April 18, 1935, in Portland, Oregon, to Verne Malcolm and Matilda (Knips) Hall. He grew up in the Portland area, graduating from Jefferson High School in 1953. He later attended Oregon State University, majoring in Geology and was a member of Theta Xi fraternity. Don also served in the National Guard for ten years achieving the rank of Sergeant.
Don met his wife, Mary Lou Aughnay, through mutual friends and they were married on February 17, 1962. They had two children, Philip and Patrick Hall.
Don worked for GTE (now Verizon) as an installer and liaison to Intel in Washington County, Oregon. After retiring, Don was able to spend more time pursuing his interests, which included hiking, landscape and gardening projects, photography, traveling and his daily walk. He also had a passion for Oregon State football, the Blazers, classic jazz, sports cars (especially his Triumph TR3), dogs, and taking the road less traveled.
In 2008 Don and Mary Lou moved from Beaverton, Oregon to Redmond to be closer to their son, Patrick. Don embraced his new home by exploring every nook and cranny of Central and Eastern Oregon. He made many new friends during his years in Redmond and especially enjoyed being a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Redmond and volunteering for special projects at the church.
Don leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Mary Lou Hall of Redmond, OR; son, Patrick (wife, Wendy) Hall of Bend, Oregon; and his three grandchildren, Nathan, GeAnna and Jeffery Hall. He was preceded in death by both parents and son, Philip.
The family would like to thank Sheila Richard of Sheila’s Care Home for her kindness, friendship, and care for the last year and a half. The family also thanks Hospice House of Bend, and Pastor Rob Anderson, for their compassion and caring during his last illness.
Memorial contributions in Don’s memory may be sent to Redmond Community Presbyterian Church, 529 NW 19th St., Redmond, OR 97756 or to Partners in Care Hospice House, 2075 NE Wyatt Court, Bend, OR 97701.
