June 17, 1917 – Dec. 16, 2013Ida Hortense Boyce was born on a cattle ranch in Almo, Idaho, one of 10 children. She attended Brigham Young University and obtained a teaching certificate. She taught in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where she met and married Richard Lyle Boyce.In 1941, they moved to Portland, Oregon, for Lyle to work in ship yards. They resided in Portland till 1964, when they moved to LaCenter, Washington, where Lyle was able to realize his dream of raising horses. They moved to Bend in 1985, where Lyle died in 1988. Ida Hortense then moved to St. George, Utah, but returned to Bend, and was here several years before she died.Ida Hortense worked in the Portland Public School system, retiring in 1978. She taught mostly eighth grade at James John and Chief Joseph schools in North Portland.She is survived by four children, Kathryn Hemingway, Tim Boyce, Jerry Boyce and Sue Ann Pualoa. She had seven grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, and many kind nieces and nephews who cared for her. She also leaves behind Kharma and Lobrinski, her beloved cat and dog.Services will be held at the Knott Road LDS Chapel at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, December 20, 2013.
