Aug. 9, 1914 – Dec. 7, 2013Thelma Gladys Peters of Portland, OR, died Saturday, December 7, 2013, at the age of 99. She was born August 9, 1914, in Monument, OR, to Chester Gearhart and Lena HammondtreeClifton.Thelma married Cecil Peters on March 15, 1943, in Vancouver, WA. In 1945, Cecil and Thelma moved to Eastern Oregon. After numerous moves they settled in 1979, in Redmond, OR. During WWII Thelma worked in the shipyards until the war ended, and she later worked as a waitress.Thelma was a member of the Womens American Legion and a member of the 40 & 8. She was past president of the Womens Auxiliary numerous times, and a member of the John Day Eagles. She had a beautiful vegetable and flower garden and loved taking care of it. She was also a great pie and bread baker.Thelma is survived by her son, Larry Eugene Peters of Terrebonne, OR; daughter, Gladys (Gene) Dickey of Prineville, OR; and her sisters, Edwina Burkholder and Barbara Cerruti of Gresham, OR. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Peters; her daughter, Geraline Guilliams; son, Norman Oliver Peters; two brothers, Benny and Clayton Gearhart; and two sisters, Martha Johnson and Madge Skiens.Donations may be made in her name to Serenity Hospice, 11481 SW Hall Blvd. Suite 200, Tigard, OR 97223.A funeral service was held December 13, 2013, at Redmond Memorial Chapel, followed by her burial at Redmond Memorial Cemetery.
