Celebrate with Larry and His Flask

Courtesy Karen SeifertLarry and His Flask will perform twice next week in Bend to celebrate the new year and the bands decade of existence.

For the fourth year in a row, local punk-grass heroes Larry and His Flask will play a New Year’s Eve show in their home town(ish) of Bend. (That (ish) is for all you Redmond folks out there. We know Redmond is where the boys really got their start.)

Anyway, it has become quite the event, and this year it’s expanding to two evenings: New Year’s Eve (Tuesday) at The Old Stone for the 21-and-older crowd and New Year’s Day (Wednesday) at Pakit Liquidators for the youngsters.

Besides celebrating New Year’s, the band will put the finishing touches on a highly successful year that saw them tour Europe multiple times, open for English folk-punk star Frank Turner and play increasingly bigger headline gigs, and release a fantastic album called “By The Lamplight” on their new label, Cascadian Records.

And there’s one more facet to this party: 2013 is the official 10th anniversary of Larry and His Flask, which formed in 2003 as a scrappy, traditional punk-rock group. Since, the band has expanded its membership a bit and evolved into the roots-rockin’ whirlwind we know today. It has been a delight to watch.

Anyway, the opening acts at these shows are like a who’s who of rootsy, punky Flask friends: Tom VandenAvond, Willy Tea and more Tuesday; and Slaughter Daughters, Dirty Kid Discount and more Saturday.

This should be a solid celebration full of sweaty hugs and back-slaps and dancing beards. Fun!
