Shulamit Aloni, 86: A longtime left-wing Israeli minister and Parliament member who was an early champion of civil liberties, challenger of religious hegemony and outspoken opponent of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories. Died Friday near Tel Aviv.
Michael Sporn, 67: An animation artist whose award-winning work included film adaptations of beloved children’s books like “Goodnight Moon.” Died Sunday in New York.
Martha Beck, 75: An art curator who made use of a converted warehouse to found the Drawing Center, an alternative museum in downtown Manhattan that provided a first showplace for emerging artists. Died Jan. 6 in New York.
