A sizable rock recently slid into its current location on the edge of the Misery Ridge trail at Smith Rock State Park.

Plans are being made by the park staff to have the rock moved to a safer location.

As The Bulletin reported on Tuesday, February 18, the massive boulder prompted the closure of the Misery Ridge Trail.

A hiker reported the 11-foot-tall, 11-foot-wide and 7-foot-deep boulder on the trail the previous morning, said Scott Brown, park manager at Smith Rock. The park has closed the 2-mile trail indefinitely.

The boulder slid onto the portion of the trail with steep stairs.

The River and and Wolf Tree trails at the park are open, Brown said, but have signs up warning users to watch out for falling rock.
