Down-the-stretch free-throw shooting helped Mountain View escape Summit 67-57 on the road Tuesday night in Class 5A Intermountain Conference boys basketball action.
“It was just a great high school game, a great environment,” Storm coach Jon Frazier said. “It was a lot of fun.”
Summit got within three points late in the game, but visiting Mountain View, ranked No. 4 in 5A heading into the contest, hit its foul shots to secure its ninth straight win and set up a winner-take-all showdown Friday night at Bend High with the IMC title on the line.
Grant Lannin paced the Cougars (7-1 IMC, 18-3 overall) with 17 points and seven rebounds, Garrett Roth had 14 points, and Ments Haugen posted 13 points.
The Storm (3-6, 11-12) were led by Nick Moyer’s game-high 22 points and five boards, while Max Michalski added 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting in Summit’s regular-season finale. The Storm, ranked 19th in 5A, are expected to earn a spot in the 5A play-in round but will wait for the final rankings to freeze on Saturday to see who they play.
“Given the competition of the IMC this year,” Frazier said, “no matter where we go, we’re going to be in a good position to win.”
