Redmond ice rink closed for season

The ice skating rink in downtown Redmond closed Wednesday for the season.

The outdoor rink, operated by the Redmond Area Park and Recreation District, had been scheduled to close this coming Sunday. Katie Hammer, park district director, said with the weather forecast calling for rain the next several days, the district elected to shut the rink earlier.

Hammer said although chemicals in the rink’s cooling system can keep the ice solid in warmer temperatures, rain is likely to create unsafe skating conditions. The rink closed March 10 last year, its second season in operation.

Names releasedin meth case

Oregon State Police have released the names of people suspected of possession of methamphetamine and attempting to elude police in a vehicle on Tuesday, according to a news release from Lt. Gregg Hastings.

Allison Eldred, 31, and Nicholas Eldred, 34, were arrested on suspicion of attempting to elude an OSP sergeant during a stop for an alleged speed violation on U.S. Highway 97 near milepost 101 south of Madras. A third person in the vehicle, later identified as Dustin Nash, 42, is said to have fled on foot and was not apprehended immediately. During the investigation, law enforcement say they found about 50 grams of methamphetamine. Nicholas Eldred, of Portland, was also accused of possession and manufacture of a controlled substance. Allison Eldred, of Vancouver, Wash., was arrested on a warrant for escape from her home state. Both were lodged in the Deschutes County jail.

Nash was arrested later Tuesday during a traffic stop north of Terrebonne, according to Hastings. Nash is suspected of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony attempt to elude in a vehicle, recklessly endangering another person and possession, distribution and manufacture of methamphetamine.

Investigators say that Nash, of La Pine, called Dean Morganti, 45, and Julia Pinckney, 42, both of La Pine, to pick him up after initially fleeing authorities, according to Hastings. Morganti and Pinckney were arrested on suspicion of hindering prosecution.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be pending, Hastings said.
