Bend High dominated the Class 5A Intermountain Confernece girls basketball circuit from the start this season, and the finish was no different.

The Lava Bears charged to a 38-12 halftime lead Friday night at Mountain View and closed out the regular season with a 62-21 Civil War romp over the Cougars.

It was the 15th straight win for the league champions, who have not lost in 2014. Secure in the top eight of the OSAA 5A rankings, the Bears are expected to play next Friday at home in a state playoff against an opponent to be determined. A win next week sends Bend back to the eight-team state tournament the following week in Eugene.

“They’re champions of the IMC, but they’re also champion kids,” said Todd Ervin, the Lava Bears’ veteran head coach.

Jessica McClay scored 14 points and Lisa Sylvester added 13 to lead Bend (9-0 IMC, 20-4 overall). Jessie Goetz scored five points to top Mountain View, which finished its season 3-6 in league play and 6-17 overall.
