Redmond softball sweeps Summit

REDMOND — Kiahna Brown’s monster day at the plate led Redmond High to a pair of Intermountain Conference softball wins over Summit on Wednesday, helping the Panthers improve to 5-11 overall.
Redmond took the opener 15-8, rallying past the Storm, who led 6-2 after 4 1/2 innings. Brown sparked a nine-run fifth inning for the Panthers with a home run and a double. Redmond’s senior standout ended the first game 4 for 5 with two home runs, a double and six RBIs. Hailey Burres added two hits and two RBIs in the early victory.
Jacqueline Manley and Keylee Floyd both homered for Summit in the first game.
In the nightcap, the Panthers won 17-9, again coming back after Summit held an early lead. The Storm (0-5, 2-11) grabbed an 8-2 advantage after 3 1/2 innings of play, but Redmond used another big inning — the Panthers scored eight runs in the fourth — and held on for the win. Brown turned in another MVP-caliber performance, going 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Maddie Edwards contributed two hits and knocked in two runs in the second game for the Panthers, who are now 2-0 in Class 5A IMC play.

SOFTBALL
Ridgeview 6-8, Bend 1-0: REDMOND — Back-to-back complete games by Raven pitchers allowed Ridgeview to claim an Intermountain Hybrid doubleheader sweep of visiting Bend High. Sara McKinney went all seven innings for the Ravens in the first inning, allowing just one run on seven hits. Erin Ware belted a three-run home run for Ridgeview, and Hannah George went 3 for 4. Katie Brown was 2 for 4 for Bend, while Lisa Sylvester went 2 for 3. In the second game, Rachel Collins scattered four hits while striking out four for Ridgeview, which posted six runs in the first three innings en route to the win. Ware went 3 for 4 for Ridgeview (9-3), and Alex Spencer was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. For Bend (9-5), Sylvester again went 2 for 3, while Brown and Mariah Buckner each logged a hit.
BASEBALL
Mountain View 7, Crook County 0: PRINEVILLE — Brock Powell scattered five hits over seven shutout innings to lead the Cougars past the Cowboys in Intermountain Hybrid play. Mountain View (3-9) scored in every inning but the sixth. Powell and Richard Madrigal each had two hits and Madrigal added an RBI in. Chase McCall paced Crook County (4-8) with a pair of hits.
Redmond 7, Summit 4: Clayton Aas and Hayden Smith each had two hits for the Panthers in the IMC victory. Colton Slavey pitched 6 1⁄3 innings for Redmond (3-1 IMC, 8-7 overall), allowing eight hits. Noah Yunker hit a two-run home run in the second inning to give the Storm (1-3, 6-6) a 2-0 lead, but the Panthers scored five runs in the fifth inning to all but seal the win.
TRACK AND FIELD
Cougs split with Ravens: REDMOND — Ten different athletes won events for Mountain View, helping the Cougar boys claim an 82-61 dual win over Ridgeview. Gabe Wyllie paced Mountain View with wins in the 200 and the 400, while Hunter Hassell and Sam Drutman shared top honors in the 3,000. For Ridgeview, Cody Simpson took the javelin and high jump while placing second in the long jump. Chris Steffey was first in the shot put and second in the discus for the Ravens, and Brent Yeakey placed first in the discus and second in the shot put. Dakota Steen claimed the 100- and the 300-meter hurdles for the Ridgeview girls, who defeated Mountain View 81.5-53.5. McKenzie Hidalgo added wins in the shot put and the discus and placed third in the javelin, while Brianna Yeakey posted victories in the javelin and the 200. For Mountain View, Kristen Place (100), Ciara Jones (400), Sage Hassell (800), Madison Leapaldt (1,500), Megan Markle (pole vault) and Alijah Randolph (triple jump) each won.
Hoffmann, Scott pace Lava Bears: Caleb Hoffmann won the 1,500 and the 300 hurdles, Connor Scott took the high jump and the triple jump, and the Bend High boys went on the road to defeat Summit 92-53. Kyle Heimuller led the Storm with wins in the discus and the shot put, setting a personal best in the shot with a throw measuring 44 feet, 8 1/2. For the girls, Summit’s Emma Stevenson tied the school record in the long jump with a leap of 17-5 1/2 in helping the Storm to a 98-46 victory. Hannah Cochran won the 400 and cleared 5-4 to take the high jump, narrowly missing the school-record mark of 5-6 1/4. Ali Laborin won the discus and was second in the javelin for Bend, while Meagan Bakker took the 300 hurdles and placed third in the 100 hurdles.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Central Oregon Lacrosse 15, South Eugene 4: EUGENE — Central Oregon remained undefeated in South League play, as Lauren Gallivan scored four goals. Cayley Allan and Kalie McGrew each posted three goals for Central Oregon (6-0 SL, 7-2), and both Kesley Norby and Ally Hand each had four saves.
