Colorado PG Spencer Dinwiddie heading to NBA — University of Colorado junior point guard Spencer Dinwiddie is skipping his senior season and will declare for the NBA draft. Dinwiddie said at a news conference in Boulder on Thursday that he believes he’s a “first-round talent” and doesn’t think there are many players in this year’s deep draft that are more talented than he is. Dinwiddie’s junior season was cut short when he tore his left ACL Jan. 12 at Washington and needed reconstructive surgery.

Pineda banned 10 games for pine tar, won’t appeal — New York Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda was suspended for 10 games Thursday after being caught using pine tar. He said he won’t appeal the penalty that will cost him two starts. The commissioner’s office announced the ban, which started immediately. Pineda was ejected in the second inning of Wednesday night’s 5-1 loss at Fenway Park after umpires found the pine tar on his neck.

Phelps loses to Lochte in comeback meet — Michael Phelps is zero for 1 in his comeback to the pool. The 22-time Olympic medalist lost to Ryan Lochte in the 100-meter butterfly final at the Arena Grand Prix on Thursday night in Mesa, Ariz. Lochte touched first in 51.93 seconds, second-fastest in the world this year. Phelps took second in 52.13 in his first meet since retiring after the 2012 London Olympics.
