Bend boys beat Sisters, take top spot in league

SISTERS — James Rockett recorded four goals and three assists to help Bend High cruise past Sisters for a 16-4 boys lacrosse win on Tuesday.

Eli Pite had three goals and an assist for Bend, which moved into first place in the High Desert League with two conference games to play. Quinn Fettig had two goals and two assists for the Bears (4-0 HDL, 10-2 overall), and Cade Hinderlider added two goals and an assist.

For Sisters (4-1, 7-4), Porter Ford led the way with a goal and an assist, while Zac Valoppi, Josh Ward and Scott Nelson each scored once.

SOFTBALL

Cottage Grove 5, La Pine 2: COTTAGE GROVE — Cottage Grove scored once in the fifth and four times in the sixth to come back from a 2-0 deficit and secure a Sky-Em League victory. Maddie Fisher was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI for La Pine (0-9 Sky-Em, 6-13 overall), Keara Parrish tripled, and Micaela Miller had an RBI single.

Sweet Home 21-20, Sisters 0-1: SWEET HOME — The Outlaws were outmatched in their Sky-Em League doubleheader against Sweet Home, which was No. 3 in Class 4A heading into the games. Playing as the home team in the opener, only Haylie Hudson picked up a hit for the Outlaws. Hudson had a hit in the second game and scored the lone run for Sisters (1-8 Sky-Em, 1-16 overall), while Chawndra Craig also had a hit.

Kennedy 13, Culver 0: MT. ANGEL — Seven runs in the first inning helped the Trojans seal a Class 2A/1A Special District 3 victory in five innings. Marie Schumacher and Myra Lopez each had a hit for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs (4-6 SD2, 4-15 overall) collected a defensive highlight, as Schumacher, Joie VanAlstyne and Cheryl Aldred had a 6-4-3 double play, the team’s first of the season.

BASEBALL

Cottage Grove 16, La Pine 0: COTTAGE GROVE — The Lions roared to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and scored seven in the fourth to win the Sky-Em League contest in five innings. The Hawks (0-9 Sky-Em, 1-18 overall) had five hits but committed five errors.

Kennedy 9, Culver 0: MT. ANGEL — The Bulldogs stranded 10 runners on base en route to a Class 2A/1A Special District 2 loss. Clay McClure went 2 for 3 for the Bulldogs (8-4 SD2, 10-7 overall), and Joe Daugherty tripled.
