“THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2”

What it’s about: The web-slinger is just starting to enjoy his work and his notoriety when high school graduation happens and everything changes.

The kid attractor factor: Spider-Man, whistling that “Spider-Man” tune, swinging through Manhattan. And Emma Stone.

Violence: Shootings, torture, car crashes, a few deaths

Language: Quite clean

Sex: Rather chaste, a stolen kiss.

Drugs: None

Parents’ advisory: Pretty violent for a comic book movie, but OK for 10-and-up.

“THE QUIET ONES”

Rating: PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and terror, sexual content, thematic material, language, and smoking throughout

What it’s about: An Oxford researcher and his apostles try to “cure” a young woman of demonic possession in 1970s Britain.

The kid attractor factor: Science vs. Satanic skullduggery, demonic violence, all filmed in the name of “research.”

Good lessons/bad lessons: “Life is either doing (scientific advances) or doing nothing.”

Violence: Yes, supernatural mayhem.

Language: Some profanity.

Sex: Nudity, seductions.

Drugs: Everybody smoked back then.

Parents’ advisory: Fairly tame for a horror movie, suitable for 12-and-up, so long as they’re horror fans.

“TRANSCENDENCE”

Rating: PG-13 for sci-fi action and violence, some bloody images, brief strong language and sensuality

What it’s about: Anti-tech terrorists kill a computer scientist, but before he dies, his wife and best friend park his personality/essence and soul into computer memory.

The kid attractor factor: Captain Jack Sparrow tries his hand at playing “brilliant,” becoming the ghost in the machine.

Good lessons / bad lessons: Maybe interconnecting everybody and everything and putting your whole life up online isn’t such a great idea.

Violence: Yes, bombings, shootings.

Language: A smidgen of profanity

Sex: Nothing worth reporting on.

Drugs: Alcohol is consumed.

Parents’ advisory: Pretty tame, for an ostensibly thought-provoking sci-fi thriller. OK for 10-and-up.
