Aspen Lakes Golf Course
The unique red cinder bunkers at Aspen Lakes are as recognizable as perhaps any feature on any course in the region. The Sisters course is lined with ponderosa pines and is a challenge for golfers of every skill level. The course has a quality set of par 5s, and its 222-yard, par-3 15th hole is among the toughest pars in the region.

Big Meadow: The course is now 42 years old, but thanks to a relatively recent renovation, golfers will still find a well-bunkered, straightforward layout that is welcoming to players of all abilities. In addition, the views of the surrounding mountains on the back nine can make for a breathtaking finish.
Glaze Meadow: Now two years after a John Fought renovation, the 34-year-old golf course is maturing into a must-play track in Central Oregon. Glaze Meadow is barely recognizable from its former self. Instead, the new design utilizes classical elements, including grass-faced bunkers and turtleback greens.
Number of holes: 36 — Glaze Meadow (18) and Big Meadow (18)

3 Crooked River Ranch
Nestled along the Crooked River Gorge, the scenic regulation course remains popular for golfers of all skill levels despite its relative short length. The signature 260-yard, par-4 fifth hole will have any golfer talking long after completion. It can easily be managed with two short irons, or more adventurous golfers will take the shortcut over the gorge and play the hole as a 225-yard par 3.

5 Eagle Crest Resort
Resort Course: The oldest of the three courses at Eagle Crest is for the most part a position golf course, with tight fairways and small greens. The difficult 481-yard, par-5 second hole features a narrow fairway that rests at the bottom of a small, juniper-lined canyon, and it takes a sharp right turn toward the green about 350 yards from the tee box.
Ridge Course: Not a particularly long track, it is a bomber’s paradise loosely lined by juniper trees and has plenty of rough to work with. In other words, aggressiveness can be rewarded. On a clear day, players are greeted at the tee box of the downhill, 190-yard 12th hole by unobstructed views of Mount Jefferson and Mount Hood.
Challenge Course: Similar in appearance and feel to the Ridge, the Challenge is not necessarily for beginners despite its short length. The 18-hole, 4,160-yard, par-63 track has an equal number of par 3s and par 4s. But with holes such as the 398-yard, par-4 fourth, the Challenge Course is no pitch-and-putt course.
Number of holes: 54 — Ridge Course (18), Resort Course (18), Challenge Course (18)
Status: Two courses open year-round, weather permitting; Resort Course open seasonally
Location: 1522 Cline Falls Road, Redmond
Tee times: 541-923-4653

6 The Greens at Redmond
Under new ownership, The Greens at Redmond is on the mend after struggling financially in recent years. A true executive course with 14 par 3s and four par 4s, the short layout is well-designed and enough to test most golfers. It is ideal for those with three hours or less to spend on golf. The 225-yard, par-3 18th hole would be difficult on any course.

7 Juniper Golf Course
Juniper is cast across the high-desert terrain, wending through juniper trees and lava rock. Hard and fast conditions make the course a challenge to even the most skilled golfers, and its speedy bentgrass greens are its hallmark. If the prevailing wind is up, the 478-yard, par-4 17th hole is arguably the toughest par in Central Oregon.

8 Kah-Nee-Ta Resort
The front nine utilizes a straightforward layout in which aggressiveness is rewarded throughout. The back nine, designed four years after the front nine, is a wholly different position course. Golfers sometimes feel like they have the track to themselves, particularly on weekdays.

9 Lost Tracks Golf Club
Lost Tracks can punish golfers who are too aggressive off the tee. Instead, the southeast Bend course is primarily a position golf course that wends through ponderosa pines with doglegs present to some degree on every hole except the four par 3s. 15 Sunriver Resort
Meadows: Meadows meanders through wetlands and some forest, but unlike at the resort’s Woodlands course, the trees rarely come into play. As a result, the golf course is playable for golfers of most skill levels. But Meadows can be a test even for highly skilled players. The 205-yard, par-3 16th hole frames a spectacular view of nearby Mount Bachelor.
Woodlands: The Woodlands has spent the last four seasons replacing its greens one by one with a hardy strain of bentgrass. That work concluded this year, giving the ponderosa pine-lined layout some of the smoothest greens around. Woodlands requires more accuracy than Meadows. The trees frame and shape the golf course, giving the track subtle doglegs rather than hard turns left or right.
Number of holes: 36 — Meadows course (18) and Woodlands course (18)
Status: Open seasonally. Woodlands opens May 23
Location: In Sunriver, 15 miles south of Bend, west of U.S. Highway 97

16 Widgi Creek Golf Club
The tiered greens of Widgi Creek make for some of the most challenging putting surfaces in Central Oregon. Position off the tee on the heavily wooded course is far more important than length to obtain a good score.
