Song of the Year show is Saturday

The Central Oregon Songwriters Association, a collection of local(ish) troubadours who meet monthly and bond over the exquisite union of music and lyrics, has been around for a long time.

Those monthly meetings also include Song of the Month contests, and Song of the Month contest winners are entered into the group’s annual Song of the Year contest, which is celebrated each spring with a show featuring several of the entrants.

It’s all very cool and local, and you like making local habit, don’t you? Your bumper sticker says you do! So spread that philosophy into your consumption of music.

You can do that Saturday evening at Kelly D’s, where COSA’s 2014 Song of the Year show will happen. The planned agenda includes performances by 14 local songwriters and an awards ceremony for 10 categories: rock, pop, country, indie/alternative, hip-hop, singer-songwriter, folk, blues/jazz, adult contemporary and unique. No word if my submission — a toothless Tuvan throat-singing cover of Toto’s “Africa” with a squeezebox between my knees — is more properly categorized as “adult contemporary” or “unique.”

Audience members will also choose an “audience choice” winner. There’ll be a raffle and food and drinks and fun. Hit up the website below for more info.
