Buffalo Bills hire firms to facilitate sale — The Buffalo Bills have officially gone on the market with the hiring of financial and legal advisers who are expected to contact prospective buyers within the next 30 days. Team owner and founder Ralph Wilson died in March, leaving the team’s long-term future uncertain. The announcement Wednesday on a transaction team was expected before the end of May. It comes a day after the Bills’ chief financial officer, Jeffrey Littmann, updated NFL owners during league meetings in Atlanta. New York City developer Donald Trump and former Bills quarterback Jim Kelly are among those who’ve shown interest in owning the Bills.
49ers’ Smith pleads no contest — San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith has pleaded no contest to three felony weapons charges and two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence. Prosecutors say Smith faces a range of possible sentences, from spending no time in custody to a maximum of four years and four months behind bars. Sentencing is set for July 25.

Desperate Atletico seeks horse therapy for Costa — Atletico Madrid is making a desperate bid to have Diego Costa available for Saturday’s Champions League final by sending him for treatment using horse placenta. The Atletico striker is doubtful for Saturday’s match against Real Madrid in Lisbon due to a nagging right thigh injury, but Atletico is not giving up. The club sent the Brazilian-born Spain striker to Belgrade to seek treatment from Marijana Kovacevic, who uses fluid derived from horse placenta to repair damaged cells. Kovacevic has previously treated a number of soccer players.

Scott, Elliott elected to NASCAR Hall of Fame — Wendell Scott was elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame as voters honored the sport’s first black driver to win a race in what’s now the Sprint Cup series. Also honored Wednesday were one of NASCAR’s most popular champions, Bill Elliott, along with two-time series champ Joe Weatherly, 1960 champion Rex White and 26-time race winner Fred Lorenzen. Scott competed in NASCAR’s top series from 1961-73. He won his only race at Speedway Park in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1963, winning the 100-mile feature after starting 15th. Scott started 495 Sprint Cup events and had a 147 top 10 finishes. Elliott was the 1988 Sprint Cup champion and his 44 race victories rank 16th in NASCAR history.
