Last Saturday art walk at the Old Ironworks

Tomorrow marks the monthly Last Saturday event in the Old Ironworks Arts District, 50 S.E. Scott St., in Bend. The district’s shops, galleries and Sparrow Bakery host an art walk in the complex from 6-10 p.m., with food, drinks and music.

Cindercone Clay Center will be celebrating 12 years in business and has a special event planned with live music from Portland folk-rock band The Weather Machine.

Armature Bend is the newest member of the Ironworks, hosting work by resident artists in Suite One and photography by Tambi Lane in Suite Two.

Spotlight Chamber Players in concert

The Spotlight Chamber Players, part of the High Desert Chamber Music (HDCM) organization, will perform at Whispering Winds Retirement, 2920 N.E. Conners Ave., Bend, at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.

“The two groups have had several performances at HDCM events and in the community, and this annual concert is a culmination of the students’ work during this past season,” said Isabelle Senger, executive director of HDCM. “The concert will feature both the cello duo and the string quartet, and the repertoire to be performed ranges from Bach to Gershwin.”

Auditions for the Spotlight Chamber Players are held yearly and are open to violin, viola, cello and bass students in grades 6-12 who have at least three years of private study and intermediate to advanced skill levels.

Students who were selected to participate this year are Mateo Garza and Hannah Ortman (violins), Ben Kroeker (viola), and Paul Blanscett, Amy Wheeler and Jonah Rosberg (cellos). The program provides a high level of chamber music instruction to aspiring young musicians, with weekly chamber music instruction from Senger and select visiting artists and performance opportunities at all HDCM events.

Tuesday’s concert is free and open to the public.

COCC singing groups to hold spring concert

Central Oregon Community College’s Cascade Chorale and the College Choir will present “The Lerner and Loewe-down: A Celebration of Genius” at 7 tonight and 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, 230 N.E. Ninth St., in Bend. Trish Sewell, a COCC music instructor, will direct.

The program will feature selections from “Gigi,” “Camelot,” “My Fair Lady,” “Brigadoon” and “Paint Your Wagon.”

The concerts are free, and donations will be accepted at the doors, which open 30 minutes before the performances.
