Bend junior golfer helps Northwest

Bend junior golfer’s Team USA downs Canada — Bend’s Madison Odiorne was among the 12 girls from Oregon and Washington to beat a team from Canada last week at the 2014 North Pacific Junior Ladies Team Matches. Odiorne, a junior at Summit High School, scored two points with playing partner Olivia Benzin, of Tacoma, Wash., and halved another nine holes in the team match-play event at Semiahmoo & Loomis Trail in Blaine, Wash. That helped Team USA down Team Canada, 19.5-16.5. The NPJL competition is an annual event modeled after the Curtis and Solheim cups, which are traditional match-play tournaments utilizing team formats.
Aspen Lakes hires new pro — Aspen Lakes Golf Course has recently hired Howie Pruitt as its head of player development, the Sisters course announced. Pruitt, 65, has been a professional in Central Oregon since 2006. He was a pro most recently at Bend Golf and Country Club and before that was the head professional at the Challenge Course at Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond. Pruitt’s chief responsibility will be to oversee Aspen Lakes’ golf instruction.
Area pro third at Senior Washington Open — Jeff Fought, the director of golf at Black Butte Ranch, shot 9 under par to finish in third place last week at the 54-hole Senior Washington Open Championship. Fought shot three rounds of 3-under 69 at The Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim, Wash., to finish four strokes behind winner Tom Sovay of The Golf Club at Redmond Ridge in Washington. Fought won $2,000 for his finish. Scott Cravens, a pro from Crooked River Ranch, finished in a tie for 10th place at even par.
