Unoccupied home burns near La Pine

The La Pine Fire District responded Saturday to a fire at an unoccupied manufactured home on Rainbow Drive in La Pine. Crews arrived at the home, at 52730 Rainbow Drive, to neighbors who said the building had been empty for some time.

The home was fully involved and the fire was spreading to trees. Firefighters put out the wildland fire, but the home was a complete loss.

The fire remains under investigation and a cause has not been determined.

Seatbelt Blitz completed

Area law enforcement completed a two-week traffic enforcement event on June 1 focused on preventing minors riding in open pickup beds and ensuring safety belt use. Bend Police issued 15 seatbelt citations, two child-restraint citations, two speeding citations and 28 other traffic citations or warnings, and the Redmond Police issued seven citations.

The final seatbelt blitz of 2014 is expected to begin Aug. 25.
