Dec. 31, 1923 – Jun. 10, 2014

On June 10, 2014, Dorothy Jean Moss passed away peacefully in Bend, Oregon, leaving family and friends who love and cherish her.

Born in Hopkins, Missouri December 31, 1923, to Galen and Ola Ulmer,

Dorothy continued to possess the strong, admirable traits of a true Midwesterner throughout her life. Her work ethic, Christian beliefs and quiet determination impacted everyone she knew.

She attended school in Hopkins, graduating in 1941 as valedictorian of her class. In 1943 she journeyed to Lebanon, Oregon where she met the love of her life, Dewey Moss. They married January 27, 1944 in Albany, Oregon.

Dorothy and Dewey had a long, fulfilling marriage enjoying fishing, hunting, taking walks, and exploring nature. Their favorite “fishing holes” were Diamond Lake and the Snake River. Dewey called her his buddy, and he was happy as long as she was with him. Dorothy also had a passion for gardening, reading, knitting, sewing, and cooking. Most importantly, she loved her family.

In Lebanon Dorothy briefly worked at the plywood mill. Later she worked as a cook with her friend, Della May Jones at Queen Anne School. Both students and staff loved their lunches. Then she worked at the school district’s Instructional Media Center until she retired.

While living in Lebanon, Dorothy served as a Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls. Also, she was a member of the First Christian Church. After moving to Bend, Oregon, in 1986, she joined the Discovery Christian Church where she volunteered at the church’s thrift shop. She lived in Bend until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey; her parents; and her sister, Marjorie Orman. She leaves behind her children, Judy and Gerald Flaskerud of Longview, Washington; Betty and Steve Woods of Estacada, Oregon; and Patsy and Keith Smith of Bend, Oregon; seven grandchildren; eleven great- grandchildren; her sister, Bev Connolly of Enterprise, Oregon; and her brother, Homer Ulmer of Hopkins, Missouri.

Dorothy’s memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28 at Discovery Christian Church.

Donations can be made to Discovery Christian Church or to Partners In Care.
