A rundown of games and events to watch for locally and nationally from the world of sports:
Thursday
Soccer, World Cup, USA vs. Germany, 9 a.m. (ESPN): Fresh off a heartbreaking tie to Portugal, the United States has to regroup to face Germany. Current U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann was the Germany coach for the 2006 World Cup, and five current German players were on that team — and current Germany coach Joachim Low was on Klinsmann’s staff in 2006. Four U.S. players ply their trade in the German league, so it is certain that many of the players will be familiar with each other.
Friday
Baseball, Bend Elks vs. Walla Walla Sweets, 6:35 p.m.: The Elks return home after a nine-game road trip through Washington and Canada. Bend (6-10) won the weekend series over Bellingham 2-1 and begin a three-game set with Victoria starting today. Walla Walla (6-9) lost its weekend series with Wenatchee.
Friday-Sunday
Rodeo, Crooked River Roundup, Prineville: Since 1945, this event at the Crook County Fairgrounds has been a highlight of the region’s rodeo calendar each summer. Shows this year are scheduled for 7 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, when the kids get in free. For more information including tickets, visit www.crookedriverroundup.com.
Friday-Sunday
Multisport, Pacific Crest Sports Weekend: The Tour de Crest on Friday kicks off the event, followed by Saturday’s Marathon. A half marathon, long-course triathlon, 5K, 10K, Olympic triathlon and duathlon and kids races highlight a weekend of competition.
