Bend golfer qualifies for U.S. Junior Am — Bend’s Madison Odiorne, 17, shot a 74 and finished in fifth place while playing in a qualifier at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn on Sunday, good enough to earn a trip to the 2014 U.S. Girls Amateur at Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff, Ariz., which will begin on July 21. The Summit High School rising senior was 2-over, just three strokes behind top qualifier Elle Slama, who shot a 71. Janet Zhang (72), Michelle Kim (73) and Jennifer Krause (73) finished ahead of Odiorne.

Redmond 12-year-old shoots 70 in COJGA tourney — Isaac Buerger, a 12-year-old from Redmond, shot a 2-under-par 70 last week in a Central Oregon Junior Golf Association tournament at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville. With his score, Buerger won the tournament’s Boys 12-13 Division by eight strokes. Buerger, who is the son of Eagle Crest Resort’s director of golf Ron Buerger, is among the most promising young golfers in the region. Last year he scored a double eagle at Eagle Crest’s Ridge Course.
