A rundown of games and events to watch for locally and elsewhere from the world of sports:
Today
Golf, U.S. Amateur Championship qualifying at Eagle Crest Resort, Redmond, 8 a.m.: Four local players are expected to be in a field of 30 for this one-day, 36-hole tournament on the Ridge Course at Eagle Crest. Today’s lowest two scorers claim berths in the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship next month near Atlanta. Spectators are welcome; admission is free.
Wednesday-Saturday
Horse racing, Crooked River Roundup races, Prineville, 7:15 p.m.: Four nights of racing will again bring big crowds to the Crook County Fairgrounds, where the gates open at 6 p.m. every night. Pari-mutuel betting is available on all the races. Admission is $5 every night with one exception: Wednesday is Ladies Night; women get in free. Thursday
Baseball, Yakima Valley Pippins at Bend Elks, 6:35 p.m.: The expansion Pippins play in Central Oregon for the first time, opening a three-game West Coast League series at Bend’s Genna Stadium. The Elks, after a slow start this season, have played their way back into contention in the South Division, while the Pippins lead the East Division.
Saturday
Cycling, Redmond Downtown Criterium, 10:55 a.m.: In its third year, this event attracts top riders from around Oregon to race on a fast L-shaped course in the heart of Redmond. Cyclists hit speeds in excess of 30 mph as they compete for cash prizes. For more information, including registration, visit www.trinitybikescycling.com.
Sunday
Soccer, World Cup final, noon (ABC): The final two combatants for the 2014 World Cup championship at Estadio Do Maracana will be determined in semifinal matches this week. On Tuesday, Brazil faces Germany (1 p.m., ESPN), and on Wednesday, Argentina takes on the Netherlands (1 p.m., ESPN). The semifinal losers meet for third place on Saturday (1 p.m., ESPN).
