Redmond’s population will temporarily increase by about 6,000 people next month when the Family Motor Coach Association brings its annual convention to the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center for the fifth time.
Organizers expect about 2,000 motor homes to gather at the association’s 90th Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase from Aug. 13-16.
Roxia Thornton-Todross, director of sales and marketing for the Deschutes County Fair & Expo Center, has been working with the organization in different capacities since 2001.
“It’s such a great event for us, and has such a huge economic impact locally and statewide,” said Thornton-Todross. “We are always happy when they come back. They’re a really great group to work with.”
The FMCA has held conventions in Redmond in 2010, 2007, 2004 and 2001, according to its website.
The organization is based in Cincinnati and has approximately 80,000 active member families.
Motor home manufacturers and dealers are expected to display new models at the convention, along with vendors who will have accessories, components, supplies, campground information and more.
Daily admission is $7 for viewing motor homes and booth displays. Those ages 12 and under get in free with an adult, and active military personnel get in free with military identification. Daily passports are available for $65 and provide access to seminars, exhibits and entertainment.
