Fred was born in Albee, OR to Jacob and Caroline Schilling. He was raised on the family ranch with his siblings until events forced them to move to Pendleton, OR.

During WWII, he enlisted in the Navy and was very proud of his service to his country. After the service, Fred moved to Bend and began working for the U.S. Forest Service.

He married Mary “Beth” McCurley and raised three children. He was an independent man and started his own excavation business, and later owned and operated Agate Water Company.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings; and his beloved wife, Beth. He will be forever loved and missed by his children, John, Kerry and Lynn; grandchildren, Joleen, Brandon, Eric, John, Cody and Hydee; his sisters, Ruth McAlavy, Dorothy Grosh; and all his nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 1:00 p.m. July 25, 2014 at Partners in Care, 2075 NE Wyatt Ct., Bend, OR 97701. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Partners in Care Home Health Hospice.
