May 16, 1919 – August 9, 2014Bess Arbow died at home, in Bend, OR, on August 9, 2014, with her family by her side.Bess was born May 16, 1919, to Arthur and Sadie Kuiken, who were Holland Dutch immigrants, that settled in Bozeman, Montana. Bess grew up on a rural Montana farm with her parents and six siblings.Bess moved to Seattle, WA, at the start of the war in 1939. There, she met Harold Arbow to whom she married on St. Patricks Day right after the war.Bess and Harold returned to his native Bend, OR, in 1949, where he began his college education for his subsequent teaching career. Harold passed away in February, 1986.Bess continued on her career of sewing and alterations at Bend Alterations for 13 years. She then opened her own business, Arbow Alteration, at age 79. There, she specialized in men’s tailoring for 10 years. Bess retired at the age of 89, although she continued to sew for herself, family, and friends.Bess is survived by children, Donald, Michael, and Maureen; grandsons, Jeffrey, Michael, Bill and Sam; great-grandchildren include, Miranda, Logan, Emma, Ben, and Andrew.There will be a graveside service with Father Julian, at Pilot Butte Cemetery, on Friday, August 15, 2014, at 10:00 a.m.Autumn Funerals of Bend is in charge of arrangements. 541-318-0842. www.autumnfunerals.net
