On Saturday, Seattle tunesmith Shelby Earl will bring her soulful blend of classic Americana and pop to Silver Moon Brewing in Bend.
If you don’t know Earl, well, perhaps you’ve heard of a fella named Ben Gibbard, from Death Cab for Cutie and the Postal Service. It was Gibbard who said “Advance copy of the new Shelby Earl LP proves: Shelby has the most heartbreakingly beautiful voice in Seattle.”
You’d be hard-pressed to win an argument otherwise. Earl’s voice is in fine form on 2013’s “Swift Arrows,” produced by Damien Jurado. Its 11 timeless-sounding songs reveal both an irrepressible strength and a winning vulnerability. Which is why NPR’s Ann Powers hits the nail squarely on the head when she said Earl “writes for those of us who’ve been through a few things.”
Rolling Stone also earns points for including Earl in its listicle “Soundtrack Suggestions for Zach Braff’s ‘Garden State’ Follow-Up” calling Earl’s countrified tune “Everyone Belongs to Someone” (from her 2011 debut, “Burn the Boats”) “lovely, gentle accompaniment for any journey of self-discovery.”
Shelby Earl; 9 p.m. Saturday; free; Silver Moon Brewing, 24 NW Greenwood Ave., Bend; www.silvermoonbrewing.com or 541-388-8331.
