Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies arrested two men on suspicion of first-degree theft and second-degree criminal trespass after finding them in a rock quarry north of Redmond on Wednesday night.
A deputy on patrol at 11:10 p.m. saw damaged fencing around the quarry on NW Pershall Way west of U.S. Highway 97, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office, and noticed the lock on the gate had been cut.
After entering the quarry, the deputy found a parked truck and utility trailer, saw two men and called for backup, according to the release. Additional deputies and officers from the Redmond Police Department responded.
One of the men, later identified as Andrew Marshall Couture, 46, of Redmond, complied with verbal commands from law enforcement and was arrested without incident, the release stated. The other man did not respond to commands to surrender, according to the release. Deputy Doug Jackson and his police dog, Duco, found the second man, Robert Charles Dellett, 42, of Bend, hiding in a heavy-equipment bucket, according to the release. Duco bit Dellett, who was treated at the scene for minor injuries by paramedics from the Redmond Fire Department, the release stated.
Several large pieces of metal, later identified as belonging to the quarry, were found in the back of the truck.
Both men were being held today in the Deschutes County jail, according to jail records.
