Amy Neilson, of Bend, picks peppers in her lot at the Hollinshead Park Community Garden in Bend on Thursday morning. She has been gardening at the site for five years and enjoys the fresh vegetables she can harvest and bring home to share with her family. “It’s exciting to come here,” Neilson said, “because it’s beautiful weather and a perfect time to pick vegetables. You have to eat them before the frost gets them.” The community garden has 72, 10-by-10-foot plots and 18 that are 10 feet by 15 feet. Community members can pay to plant and grow vegetables in the garden plots.
