Closure will be for dam dismantling

A portion of the Deschutes National Forest near Sisters will be closed from 5 p.m. Sunday to Monday evening as construction workers begin dismantling the last concrete dam on Whychus Creek.

The closure includes all the woods bordered by Forest Roads 300, 1505 and 1605, as well as Whychus Creek, according to the Deschutes National Forest. The exact time the closure will be lifted has yet to be been determined. The removal of Pine Meadow Ranch dam will help the restoration of 13 miles of spawning and rearing habitat for Chinook salmon, steelhead and trout.

Pine Meadow Ranch has worked with the Uppers Deschutes Watershed Council, the Deschutes National Forest and the Deschutes River Conservancy to restore the fishery along the creek.
