The Bend Police Department and the Crook County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday reported the results of a recent 13-day push to enforce seat belt usage.

Using funds from the Oregon Department of Transportation, both agencies added overtime shifts between Aug. 26 and Sept. 7 to look for drivers and passengers who were not using seat belts as required by law.

Bend police reported 14 seat belt citations, four speeding citations and 21 other warnings and citations as a result of the effort. Sheriff’s deputies issued 16 seat belt warnings and wrote citations for eight cases of negligent driving and two for speeding.
