Summit sweep cross-country invite

MONMOUTH — Beneath sunny skies and with temperatures pushing 80 degrees, the Summit girls and boys each placed three runners in the top five of their respective cross-country races Saturday as the Storm posted matching scores of 31 points to sweep top honors at the Ash Creek XC Invitational.
Kaely Gordon and Olivia Brooks went 2-3 to pace the Summit girls, as the duo finished behind only overall winner Olivia Powell of Marist over the 5,000-meter course. Hannah Tobiason took fifth for the Storm, who bested distant runner-up Corvallis by 71 points.
Mountain View, which was third as a team with 108 points, was led by Tia Hatton’s seventh-place finish, while Madison Leapaldt placed 12th in the 123-runner field.
Maddi Boettner paced Sisters with a 33rd-place showing, and Macadia Calavan took 41st as the Outlaws tallied 223 points to place seventh as a team. Shea Bolton was 39th to lead Redmond, which was ninth in the 16-team standings with 240 points, and Andrea Broyles (47th), Makenna Conley (48th) and Jimena Pineda (50th) all finished in the top 50 for the Panthers.
For the boys, Summit’s Tyler Jones completed the 5K course in 15 minutes, 48.04 seconds to take second overall behind Miler Haller of Edmonds-Woodway (Wash.). Erick Fykerud and Alex Martin finished within a second of each other to go 4-5 for the Storm, whose 31 points topped runner-up Marist by 75 points in the 23-team standings.
Dakota Thornton placed sixth overall, edging Summit’s Thomas Schoderbek by a little more than a second, to help Mountain View finish with 113 points and a fourth-place showing. Gabe Wyllie was 11th for the Cougars, and Christian VanSise finished 14th in the 166-runner field.
Redmond, which was 13th as a team with 363 points, was led by a 47th-place finish by Clayton Aas, while Remington Williams placed 49th for the Panthers. Shea Krevi was the top Sisters runner, placing 50th overall to lead the Outlaws to 415 points and a 15th-place finish.
