A woman charged with stabbing a man in La Pine over the weekend has had her bail amount decreased by $110,000.

Heather Leigh Chapman, 26, of La Pine, made her first court appearance by video from the Deschutes County jail Monday afternoon.

She is scheduled to be arraigned on a grand jury indictment Sept. 22.

Chapman faces charges of attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a weapon after allegedly stabbing Victor Evangelista, 52, of La Pine on Saturday night.

Deschutes Circuit Judge Beth Bagley ruled Monday that Chapman be monitored for alcohol consumption if she is able to post 10 percent of the bail amount, which would release her from county custody.

If she is released, Chapman is forbidden from drinking alcohol or going to bars. Chapman is also not permitted to use or possess weapons, according to the ruling.

Chapman was originally booked in Deschutes County jail Saturday on $360,000 bail, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an incident on the 51300 block of Riverland Avenue in La Pine at 6 p.m. Saturday. The stabbing occurred for an unknown reason, and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Sgt. Vance Lawrence declined to release any further information on the incident Monday, saying the investigation was ongoing. Evangelista and other witnesses identified the suspect as Chapman, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

Evangelista suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the stabbing. After receiving treatment on the scene from the La Pine Fire Department, Evangelista was flown to St. Charles Bend by air ambulance, where he was treated and released

Reached by phone Monday, Evangelista declined to comment on the incident.
