Clarinet trio opens season for chamber music series

High Desert Chamber Music’s seventh season opens with the Central Oregon debut of the Vanchestein-Park-Vanhauwaert Trio at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St., in Bend.

The Los Angeles clarinet trio features piano, violin and clarinet, and came together after the members discovered the special results of blending instruments from three different families in one group, according to a press release for the concert.

At 6:45 p.m., the trio will talk about the program, which includes works by Gian Carlo Menotti, Georges Bizet and Darius Milhaud. The pre-concert talk is free for all ticketholders.

Tickets are $35, $10 for students and children.

Writers Guild to host catchy dialogue discussion

Central Oregon Writers Guild will host writer Suzan Noyes at 6 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Downtown Bend Library, 601 NW Wall St. Noyes will lead a discussion on how to hook readers with catchy dialogue.

Noyes writes articles, short stories, plays and screenplays, according to www.centraloregonwritersguild.com. Her comedy “Crazy About Me” ran at 2nd Street Theater in 2013, and another Noyes play, “Hot Spot in Pompeii,” is slated to open in 2015.

The meeting is free and open to the public.
