Half the road around Crater Lake will be open only to nonmotorized recreation Saturday and again next Saturday, Sept. 27.
Hikers, cyclists, walkers and runners will have free rein over East Rim Drive — with no cars or trucks. Following a successful event last year, Crater Lake National Park plans to use the third and fourth Saturdays in September as annual opportunities to highlight nonmotorized recreation, according to a news release from the park.
East Rim Drive will be closed from north junction, near the park’s north entrance, to park headquarters, near the park’s south entrance. Visitors can park at north junction and in a gravel lot a quarter-mile south of park headquarters.
Crater Lake National Park, about 90 miles south of Bend, also plans to have a similar event in June, if the snowpack allows.
