Lakeview 33, La Pine 24: Honkers rally past Hawks

LAKEVIEW — La Pine would have liked nothing more than to head into Week 4 with a second straight win.
That all seemed likely as the Hawks built an 18-0 halftime lead. But Lakeview outscored its guest 33-6 in the second half Friday night to claim a 33-24 nonleague football victory.
“I give credit to Lakeview coming out in the second half strong, scoring on their first possession,” La Pine coach Josh McInnis said. “We looked like the wind kind of got taken out of our sails a bit. … We couldn’t string together enough plays to get the ball back after that.”
Brad Ward finished with two touchdown passes, one each to Austin Kentner and Marcus Weant, to pace the Hawks, and Keegan Kriz ran for a touchdown. But La Pine (1-2) struggled to stop the Honkers’ rushing attack in the road loss. The Hawks return home next Friday when they play host to Burns.
