Roughriders win league opener — The Bend Rugby Club opened its league season Saturday with a 30-25 home victory over the Salem Rugby Club. Mike Hunter scored two tries, a penalty kick and a conversion after a try to lead the host Roughriders. Zach Heath, Craig Branstad and Rich Miller all scored one try for Bend. The Roughriders are 2-1 overall and 1-0 in league. Bend Rugby Club is on the road Saturday, at the Corvallis Brewers.

Bend woman wins Oregon Marathon — Janet Hendricks, a 45-year-old Bend resident, was the top female finisher at the Oregon Marathon in Mt. Angel on Sept. 13. Hendricks, who placed 14th overall, finished the 26.2-mile course in 3 hours, 18 minutes and 58 seconds. Bend’s Jennefer Lloyd, 48, was the second female to cross the finish line, completing the race in 3:26:56.
