A rundown of games and events to watch for locally and elsewhere in the world of sports (all times Pacific):
Wednesday
Major League Baseball, San Francisco Giants at Los Angeles Dodgers, 7 p.m. (ESPN): The playoff-bound Dodgers could have the NL West title clinched by midweek, but their archrivals are still fighting to secure a postseason berth in a tight wild-card race.
Thursday
High school soccer: Doubleheaders at Bend High and Summit open league play in the Intermountain Conference, boys games starting at 3 p.m., girls matches at 4:30. At Bend’s 15th Street Field, the Lava Bears take on Ridgeview; at Summit High, the Storm entertain Redmond.
Friday
High school football: The season’s fourth week sends all five of Central Oregon’s Class 5A teams out of the area. Home games for the locals include Crook County vs. Gladstone, Sisters vs. Sutherlin, La Pine vs. Burns and Culver vs. Vernonia, all at 7 p.m. Also at home is Gilchrist, which kicks off against Prospect at 4 p.m.
Saturday
College football, Oregon State at Southern California, 7:30 p.m. (ESPN): The Beavers appeared to get on track with a drubbing of San Diego State that put them at 3-0 to open the season for the fifth time since 1999. Oregon State has held its own against USC in recent seasons, but the Beavers have not beaten the Trojans in Los Angeles in 22 meetings there since 1960.
Saturday
Running/walking, Pilot Butte Challenge in Bend, 9 a.m.: The 16th annual race at Bend’s iconic cinder cone takes participants of all ages up the nature trail, climbing nearly 500 feet during the 1-mile trip to the top.
