Mt. Bachelor loses 2015 cycling events

The 2015 USA Cycling Cross-Country and Enduro national championships will be held in Mammoth Lakes, California, instead of at Mt. Bachelor as planned, USA Cycling said Thursday.

The decision to move the event, scheduled for July, was based on limited resources and personnel due to coinciding cycling and other athletic events in the Bend area, according to a news release from the organization.

Micah Rice, USA Cycling vice president of national events, said in the news release that the organization is looking forward to returning to Bend in the near future for another national championship.

Representatives from Visit Bend, which announced in December that the races would be held in Bend, could not be reached Tuesday.

The championships were to be held at Mt. Bachelor in 2015 and 2016, according to the Dec. 19 news release from Visit Bend. USA Cycling’s news release made no mention of any changes for the 2016 races.
