Mountain View player gets four goals in boys soccer win over Ridgeview

Zach Emerson scored four goals on assists by three different teammates Thursday, leading Mountain View to a 4-2 Intermountain Conference boys soccer win over Ridgeview.
The home-field win was the third straight victory for the Cougars (2-0 IMC, 4-2-1 overall), while the Ravens (0-3, 2-5-1) dropped their fifth straight.
Mario Torres was credited with two assists and Jose Torres and Kevin Pfeil had one apiece for the Cougars, who took a 2-0 lead on Emerson goals in the 20th and 25th minutes. Ridgeview answered with a goal by Wes Carter to get within 2-1 at halftime, but Emerson was back at it after the break, scoring in the 55th and 66th minutes to widen the gap.
The Ravens got a late goal by Malachi Stalberg to account for the final score.
“We definitely had the majority of possession,” said Mountain View coach Jerry Jimenez, who praised center fullback Trace Whatley for leading the Cougar defense.

BOYS SOCCER
Summit 2, Bend 1: A pair of early goals lifted the Storm, the top-ranked team in Class 5A, to an Intermountain Conference victory at 15th Street Field. Cameron Ficher scored off a Dane Kiger assist in the fourth minute for the Storm (3-0 IMC, 7-1-1 overall) and Conor Galvin connected with Alex Bowlin 11 minutes later to give Summit a two-goal advantage. Late in the first half, Bend’s Chance Flammang knocked in a goal off a Kelly Gieber assist, but it was not enough as the Lava Bears fell to 1-1 in league play and 5-3 overall.
Sisters 8, Sutherlin 0: SISTERS — Justin Harrer recorded a hat trick in the first half, and Sisters remained unbeaten in the Sky-Em League with a convincing home victory. Malachy Sundstrom scored two early goals for the Outlaws (5-0 Sky-Em, 6-2 overall), and Harrer netted goals in the 25th, 26th and 27th minutes — a flurry that put Sisters up 5-0 at halftime. In the second half, Jadon Bachtold and Andreas Pedersen scored unassisted goals, and Connor Schaab closed out the scoring with a goal set up by Pedersen’s third assist of the match. Outlaws coach Rob Jensen noted that his team allowed no shots on goal for the second game in a row.
Crook County 3, Estacada 1: PRINEVILLE — Bryan Martinez scored twice and Victor Villagomez added a goal in the Cowboys’ Tri-Valley Conference win over the Rangers. Crook County (2-1-1 TVC, 3-1-1 overall) led 1-0 at half before Martinez and Villagomez insured the victory with goals after the break.
Madras 2, Gladstone 1: GLADSTONE — Oved Felix and Jose Garcia scored first-half goals for the White Buffaloes, who survived an own goal in the second half and claimed a Tri-Valley Conference road win. Garcia, who came off the bench, assisted on the goal by Felix about 10 minutes into the match, then scored a goal of his own midway through the first half. The Buffaloes improved to 3-1 TVC, 5-3 overall.
South Albany 11, Redmond 0: ALBANY — The Rebels of the Mid-Willamette Conference raced past the Panthers (0-7 overall), scoring 10 goals in the first half of the nonleague match. Redmond coach Claudio Muggia credited sophomore Adrian Maya for a strong performance at midfield for the Panthers.
Creswell 9, La Pine 0: LA PINE — Facing the undefeated and No. 5 team in Class 3A/2A/1A, the Hawks hung with their counterparts through the first half, trailing 3-0 as keeper Wyatt Oldham racked up 15 saves. After the break, however, Creswell erupted for six goals to drop La Pine to 0-6 in Special District 3 play and 0-9 overall. Oldham finished with 23 saves in goal.
Horizon Christian 3, Central Christian 0: HOOD RIVER — The Tigers played Horizon to a scoreless draw in the first half, but the Hawks took control in the second half en route to the Class 3A/2A/1A Special District 6 decision. “We had two shots off the crossbar and one off their keeper’s hands,” said Central Christian coach Drew Roberts. “We had a lot of chances … it was just not our day.” Roberts praised Abby Hannay for her play on the defensive side for the Tigers (2-4 SD6, 2-5 overall).
GIRLS SOCCER
Mountain View 6, Ridgeview 0: Rylee Dickinson and Taryn Poole scored two goals apiece, Alexa Bickford added two assists and goalkeeper Sarah Bailey pitched a shutout as the Cougars rolled to the Intermountain Conference victory. Madison Choffel and Abby Nopp also scored for Mountain View (2-0 IMC, 5-2 overall). “We played smart, fast soccer,” said Mountain View coach Don Emerson, whose team outshot Ridgeview 21-6. The Ravens fell to 0-3 in league and 2-6-1 overall.
Sisters 6, Sutherlin 1: SISTERS — The Outlaws scored four second-half goals en route to a Sky-Em League rout. Molly Boyle recorded three goals, Liz Stewart scored twice and had one assist and Taylor Schneider registered one goal for Sisters. Michaela Miller contributed to with two assists. Sisters is now 5-0 in league play and 6-2 overall.
Gladstone 5, Madras 0: MADRAS — The White Buffaloes were dealt their fifth straight loss to slip to 0-4 in Tri-Valley Conference play and 1-7 overall. Madras coach Krista Hayes praised the performance of her midfielders, Jessica Alavez and Laura Diaz.
Estacada 3, Crook County 0: ESTACADA — The Cowgirls were dealt their fourth Tri-Valley Conference loss, as Crook County now stands at 0-4 in conference action and 0-6 overall.
Glide 4, La Pine 0: LA PINE — After playing Glide to a scoreless draw in the first half, the Hawks gave up four scores after the break in suffering their first setback of the season. La Pine dropped to 2-1 in Class 3A/2A/1A Special District 4 play and 5-1-1 overall.
VOLLEYBALL
Bend 3, Redmond 0: REDMOND — The Lava Bears held on to the No. 1 spot in the Intermountain Conference with a 25-20, 25-12, 25-7 sweep of the Panthers. Cassidy Wheeler recorded 16 digs, five kills and four aces for Bend (4-0 IMC), the top-ranked team in Class 5A, and Callie Kruska logged five kills. Redmond (0-4) was paced by Jen Meeker’s 14 assists, while Kenzie Jackson and Meghan Hansen combined for eight kills. Halee Story had 11 digs for the Panthers.
Summit 3, Mountain View 0: In a battle of top-10 Class 5A teams, it was the No. 5 Storm pulling off a 25-19, 25-23, 25-21 sweep of the visiting Cougars. Summit (3-1 IMC) was paced by Jordan Waskom’s 11 digs, while Haley Smith and McElle Kelley contributed with 11 and nine kills, respectively. Mountain View, No. 9 in 5A, dropped to 2-2 in league play.
Sisters 3, Sweet Home 0: SWEET HOME — With Hawley Harrer posting 11 kills on 11-of-11 hitting, the Outlaws improved to 6-0 in Sky-Em League action with a 25-11, 25-14, 25-10 win. Harrer added 16 assists, Alex Hartford dished out 14 assists, and Nila Lukens finished with nine kills for Sisters, the top-ranked team in Class 4A. Jessie Brigham had five aces and nine digs, and Brenna Weems logged four kills and three blocks.
Pleasant Hill 3, La Pine 1: LA PINE — The Hawks could not hold leads in the first and second sets and eventually fell 25-23, 25-23, 17-25, 25-15 in Mountain Valley Conference play. Maddie Fisher had seven kills and seven assists to lead the Hawks (0-4 MVC). Kinsey Pinckney added 18 digs.
Culver 3, Stanfield 0: STANFIELD — The Bulldogs rolled to the Columbia Basin Conference victory, winning 25-9, 25-10, 25-8 to improve to 3-0 in league play. Shealene Little led Culver with 19 kills and added eight digs and four aces. Lynze Schonneker had four kills, three aces and seven digs, Emma Hoke had 10 aces and seven digs, and Margie Beeler recorded 27 assists.
BOYS WATER POLO
Summit 12, Mountain View 5: Kyle Alhart scored five goals after posting a scoreless first half as Summit’s goalie, leading the Storm to the Central Valley League win at Juniper Swim & Fitness Center. Jesse Bandy, Tommy Brewer and Jack Butler scored two goals apiece for Summit (4-0), and Gavin Lalonde added one. Alhart had four blocks in goal in the first half and Devin Swan, in goal for the Storm in the second half, also had four blocks. Alex Pitcher scored three goals for Mountain View, and Iqmal Wolfenden and Trevor Fox scored one apiece. Also for the Cougars, Abby Andresen had three steals, Joseph Murphy and Pitcher had one each, and Cade Trotter made six goal blocks.
