Joe Kline / The Bulletin Michael Leeland, the recently-hired regional director of Sparrow Clubs in Central Oregon, holds a picture of him as a baby with Dameon Sharkey in the Sparrow Club's office in Bend on Thursday. Leeland is the original Sparrow kid. As an infant, he was diagnosed with Leukemia. Sharkey, who was a seventh grader at the time, donated all of his money to the Leeland family to help them pay for Michael Leeland's bone marrow transplant. The gesture inspired Michael Leeland's dad to later start Sparrow Clubs USA.
