Deaths of note from around the world:

Gerry Neugebauer, 82: Astrophysicist who pioneered ways to peer into previously invisible sectors of outer space, helping to discover hundreds of thousands of planets, stars and galaxies. Died Sept. 26 in Arizona.

William Lopez, 55: Man who was convicted of murder in Brooklyn and imprisoned for 23 years, maintaining his innocence all the while, before being exonerated last year. Died Sept. 20 in New York.
