A California man arrested by Oregon State Police on Saturday for allegedly transporting 20 pounds of liquid methamphetamine on U.S. Highway 97 will be arraigned on Oct. 23 in Jefferson County, according to Jefferson County District Attorney Steven Leriche.
Silvestre Rivera Fernandez, 25, of South Gate, California, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Saturday afternoon on $20,000 security. He posted bail at around 9 p.m. that evening, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Jim Adkins.
Leriche said the DA’s office planned to charge Fernandez with possession and delivery of a controlled substance — methamphetamine. Fernandez may also be arraigned on indictment on Oct. 23, depending on whether a grand jury will have time to review the case before then, said Leriche.
Fernandez was stopped for allegedly speeding through a construction zone at about 4 p.m. Saturday, according to Oregon State Police. Police discovered and seized the liquid meth during subsequent investigation. The meth was contained in 3 vacuum-sealed bags and can be converted to a solid form.
The investigation is ongoing, according to OSP Lt. Gregg Hastings.
