Central Oregon trail update
Published 12:00 am Wednesday, October 8, 2014
Anticipate an increase in use out on the trails this weekend. It won’t be as warm, but a beautiful fall weekend looks like it’s in order.
Trails are drying out again and getting pretty dusty. The moisture from rainfall a few weeks ago was relatively short-lived, even up in some of the higher elevations.
There will still be some hunting traffic with open rifle hunting season still in effect. Debris removal on the Sunriver to Lava Lands paved trail is ongoing and is scheduled to wrap up before this weekend. Trail users should expect sectional closures close to Sunriver.
Forest Road 370 between Todd Lake and Forest Road 4601 will close for the season Oct. 20. Lava Lands will close for the season on Tuesday.
Trail users are reminded to go fully prepared with maps, GPS systems and other essentials. The days are getting shorter, and darkness tends to fall quickly. Please be fully aware and inform someone of where you’re headed and your intended time of return — it helps provide more information for search and rescue.
